A Sacred Pause in Vata Season
There was a time I moved through the holidays in a blur — overgiving, under-resting, smiling while tense inside. I ignored what my body was trying to say: "Slow down. Come home."
Now, I create space for slowness. I've learned that tending to myself is not selfish — it's sacred. And it allows me to show up in my relationships, my work, and my spirit more fully, more softly, more whole.
According to Ayurveda, we are in Vata season — late fall into early winter. Vata is ruled by the elements of air and ether — light, cold, dry, mobile, scattered. In nature, the wind stirs the trees. In us, Vata stirs anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, bloating, forgetfulness, and feeling ungrounded.
It affects digestion, sleep, emotions, and our sense of inner peace.
Healing Through Opposites
Ayurveda teaches that healing comes through opposites. To soothe Vata, we bring in what is warm, moist, heavy, slow, and grounding. This is a time to:
Eat warm, spiced foods
Practice slow, steady movement
Rest more
Nourish with oil, tea, and presence
Let slowness become your medicine
"Tending to myself is not selfish — it's sacred.”
As the world asks us to speed up during this season, may we find the courage to slow down. May we honor what our bodies are asking for. May we choose warmth, rest, and gentle presence.
A Blessing for This Season
May you move through this Vata season not with urgency, but with reverence. May you honor the whispers and rhythms of your body. And may you remember: the most sacred thing you can do right now… is slow down to nurture and nourish.
