When Your Body Needs Something Different
After I shared about life interrupting the practice, I heard from a few people who said something like this:
"I can feel that my body needs something different — but I don't know what."
That question lives most clearly in digestion.
Because digestion is one of the first places we feel it when our rhythm changes.
When life is uncertain. When worry is present. When sleep is disrupted. When we're caregiving, grieving, sick, or simply tired.
Noticing The Pattern
I've noticed this in my own body recently.
As uncertainty and worry have been present, my digestion has slowed. Food doesn't digest as easily. My appetite is quieter. What used to feel nourishing can suddenly feel like too much.
Instead of forcing myself to eat the way I normally would, I've been paying attention to the pattern — and shifting toward what my body is actually asking for.
Warmer foods. Simpler meals. Less stimulation. More space.
Digestion As A Mirror of How We Live
In Ayurveda, digestion isn't just about what we eat. It's about how we live.
Our digestive fire responds to rhythm — regularity, warmth, rest, and a sense of safety.
When our life rhythm shifts, digestion often asks us to shift too.
Soup instead of salads. Sitting instead of pushing. Eating without screens instead of multitasking through meals.
These aren't regressions. They're intelligent adaptations.
So often, people try to "fix" digestion by adding more — more supplements, more rules, more effort.
But many digestive issues don't need more discipline. They need more regulation.
A nervous system that feels safer allows digestion to soften, respond, and restore.
Living in Rhythm, Not Rigidity
This is what living in rhythm actually looks like — not holding the same routine through every season, but noticing patterns and responding with care.
If you're in a season where digestion feels off — bloating, heaviness, low appetite, irregularity — it may not be a problem to solve.
It may be a signal of your body asking for rhythm, not rigidity.
A Gentle Resource
If you're navigating a tender season and want gentle, grounding support, I created a short Rest & Rhythm Guide with simple practices to help regulate your nervous system and reconnect with your body — especially on days when energy is low.
You can download it here: Rest, Rhythm & Rituals Guide – Gentle Practices for Calm & Clarity.
No perfection required. No routine to keep up with.
Just something to return to when life feels heavy.
And if what you're really needing right now is a place to land — not more information, not more fixing — you're also welcome in The Sanctuary.
The Sanctuary is a free space I hold for rest, reflection, and nervous system support. It's something you can return to quietly, at your own pace, especially during seasons when your rhythm is shifting and life feels tender.
No pressure to engage. No expectation to keep up. Just a place to soften and be supported.
Be well,
Chelsea
